IS FASTING LASTING?

We notice during Lent that people give up something, and this form of fasting somehow satisfies our "religious obligation".  Why did JESUS fast for 40 days?  HE was seeking a closer relationship with GOD THE FATHER; not only was HE not eating or drinking, HE was alone.  Alone with GOD.  Fasting is a time when we put all of our thoughts, energies and self into GOD'S WILL.  Fasting is a  time to alternate prayer, reading the Bible and meditation to increase our relationship with GOD'S righteousness, wisdom and HIS Will.  A time that strengthens us in humility, love and concern for others.  Isaiah 58:6, "Is not this the fast I choose; to loose the bonds of wickedness..." I wonder if fasting is only about food and water?  Could it also be about anything we "prefer or put" before GOD?  Could it be seemingly innocent things like our favorite T.V. show, that great cup of coffee or hot chocolate in the morning, or thoughts we dare not share with anyone?  Fasting is when we put all thoughts, energies and self into GOD'S WILL; IS OUR FASTING LASTING?
